He looks out of his
apartment window towards the sea and the sea looks calm. He grabs his coffee and looks back out of the window but something catches his eye on
the hill above the beach. What’s going on up there? There’s a huge crowd but I can’t
quite see what’s going on. I think I will take a walk and see what’s going on.
But it takes a while for him to get up the hill an because his legs are not as
young as they need to be. Walter eventually gets to the hill hour and half later.
(Where normally it would take ten minutes from his apartment to the hill) I
think I will make my way through the crowd and see what all the fuss is about.
‘Hey, you, what’s going on here ?’ as he
points his stick at the guy.
‘We are trying to find a volunteer to fly the hang
glider !’
‘You’re what, you’re trying to get someone to fly a remote control helicopter ?’ he asks with a
smile on his face.
‘I can do, that I had loads
when I was boy. Where is it ?’
‘No, we need someone to fly a hang glider’ he shouts while grabbing his
coat because Walter was starting to walk off.
Walter starts muttering as
he sees the hang glider. ‘I hate these
things, when I was younger I fell off
one of those bloody things and broke my arm. He ignores the guy grabbing his
coat, whacking him round the head with his stick.
‘Oh, mister, Listen to me’?
‘What do you say young fellow?’ as he gets right up close
to the glider.
‘Hey, old guy, watch out for that rope! He shouts at
the top of voice.
‘What, what boy, speak up I
can’t hear you , I have problems with my
hearing’
It’s too late as the glider
starts to lift off with a woman ready to fly the glider. Walter foot is stuck
in the hoop of the rope. The glider takes off and all the people in the group are yelling at the guy to get
his foot out,
‘What, you say it’s over
there?’ but before he could let go he is in mid air and Walter
is being dragged off the ground. ‘Ahhh!
get me out of here’ he screams and a look of panicky comes over his face. He
starts to wriggle and tries to loosen
the rope .
Everyone is screaming ‘Don’t
do that!’
The woman on the hang glider
wonders what all the screaming is about.
She looks down and sees Walter dangling at the end of the rope, upside down
screaming and bobbing up and down in the sea.
